The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Isla Calavera, which prepares its fifth edition for the week of November 19 to 27, opens the call for audiovisual works to participate in competition and out of competition. The owners of the works are called to submit their short and feature films of any nationality, framed in the fantastic genre (horror, science fiction, fantasy, thriller...), in the modalities of fiction and documentary, both real image and animation.
The deadline for registration is Wednesday, October 13, and titles will be accepted with a production date after January 1, 2019, which have not been commercially released in Spanish theaters, on television or video-on-demand platforms. The maximum length of the short films is 20 minutes.

Registrations can be made through the following digital platforms Festhome y Filmfreeway. The complete rules of the call for entries and all the information on the procedure for submitting materials are available on the website www.festivalislacalavera.com.

The selected works will be part of the program that will be shown at Multicines Tenerife, the screening venue of the Isla Calavera Festival. The Jury of the Official Competition Section will decide on the Isla Calavera Awards for Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Jack Taylor Award for Best Actor and Colin Arthur Award for Best Special Effects. The members of the Jury will also consider the "Solidarity Fantastic" Award for Best Short Film with solidarity and/or civic content. There will also be two audience awards for Best Short Film and Best Feature Film, to be decided by the audience.

Organized by the Asociación Cultural Charlas de Cine, the Asociación Cultural Isla Calavera, Multicines Tenerife and the specialized publication TumbaAbierta.com, the team of the Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Isla Calavera is working on the next edition of the event, facing the current situation after the irruption of Covid-19.
