The Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival - Isla Calavera includes a film series dedicated to cult filmmaker Sam Raimi as part of the program of its second edition, to be held from November 19 to 25 at Multicines Tenerife with the sponsorship of the Tenerife 2030 Area of the Island Council, the Development Society of the City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands and the University of La Laguna. One of the titles scheduled is the cult film 'The Evil Dead' ('Posesión infernal', 1981), which will be screened next Friday, November 23, starting at 12 midnight.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the participation of actor Carlos Areces, among other guest speakers. The price of tickets for this special session, already on sale at the box office and online, is €5.50.

'Infernal Possession', Sam Raimi's first feature film, is considered an icon of B-movie horror and is one of Areces' favorite films. In 1978, at the age of 19, Raimi had filmed the 32-minute short film 'Within the Woods', starring his then-unknown University of Michigan friends Bruce Campbell and Ellen Sandweiss. Its result led them to make the feature film, whose plot revolves around a group of young people who decide to spend a few days in an abandoned cabin in the middle of a forest, where the discovery of a book bound with human skin, the Necronomicon, leads them to awaken some evil spirits.

The success of 'Hellish Possession' was extended with the release of two sequels, 'Evil Dead II' ('Evil Dead II', 1987) and 'Army of Darkness' ('Army of Darkness', 1992), a remake of the same name released in 2013, and the TV series 'Ash vs. Evil Dead', which premiered in 2015 on the Starz channel. The aforementioned 'The Army of Darkness' will also be screened -with free admission until full capacity is reached- in this edition of the Isla Calavera Festival. This special session will take place on Saturday, November 25, from 23:00 hours, and after the screening there will be a discussion about the film.

The Sam Raimi cycle is completed with the action thriller 'Darkman' (1990), title that will open the Festival program on Monday 19, at 18:00 hours, by the hand of the distributor Reel One Entertainment. Tickets for this screening are free of charge, after collecting an invitation at the box office of Multicines Tenerife until the available capacity is reached. In the film, after inventing a synthetic skin capable of reproducing any face, the scientist Peyton Westlake - played by Liam Neeson - suffers an assassination attempt that leaves him disfigured. Transformed into a monstrous-looking being, immune to pain, he uses his invention to become a dark avenger.

In addition, there will be surprises for attendees at the three screenings of the Sam Raimi series.

Actor, singer and cartoonist, the versatile Carlos Areces rose to fame for his participation in La hora chanante (Paramount Comedy) and Muchachada nui (TVE). He has worked with directors such as Álex de la Iglesia, in the TV series 'Plutón BRB Nero' and in the film 'Balada triste de trompeta'; with Pedro Almodóvar ('Los amantes pasajeros'); and with Nacho Vigalondo ('Extraterrestre'), among others. He has collaborated with magazines such as El Jueves and Fotogramas, and in radio programs such as 'No somos nadie', on M80 Radio, where he was a film critic. On December 28th he premieres the futuristic comedy 'Tiempo después', by José Luis Cuerda.
