November 3, 2025.- The director and screenwriter from Madrid Eduardo Casanova will present his most recent work, the original series for Movistar Plus+, at the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera. Silencioa bold and visually captivating reinterpretation of the vampire myth. Casanova, who has already established his reputation with acclaimed productions such as Skins (2016) y The Pity (2022), now brings a proposal that has generated standing ovations at festivals such as Locarno, Sitges and Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Silence transcends the traditional vampire genre to explore issues of queer identity, HIV stigma and the persistence of social silence, constructing a story that crosses two historical pandemics: the medieval Black Death and the AIDS crisis in Spain in the 1980s.
The screening of the series, which features a cast headed by Lucía Díez, Ana Polvorosa, María León, Mariola Fuentes, Leticia Dolera, Omar Ayuso and Carolina Rubio, will be on Saturday, November 15, at 4:30 pm. Casanova's proposal reimagines the vampire myth through immortal sisters who, faced with the lack of "clean human blood" during the Black Death, discover centuries later that their descendants continue to deal with the same social prejudices in times of pandemic. A thematically uncompromising work that questions how social condemnation is perpetuated through the centuries, and how love between "sick" and "healthy", between human and vampire, continues to provoke terror and rejection.
