The fifth edition of the Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival Isla Calavera will take place in Tenerife from November 19 to 27. To celebrate it, the specialized channel DARK, which has been a partner of the event since its inception, broadcasts this Saturday 27th a special program with the following titles that have passed through Isla Calavera: 'Nightmare Cinema', 'Cuerdas' and 'Urubú'.

The Isla Calavera fantasy film marathon will kick off at 11:30 a.m. with 'Nightmare Cinema', Isla Calavera "Colin Arthur" Award for Best Special Effects in the 2018 edition. It is a horror anthology, directed by some of the most prominent auteurs in genre cinema, including Mick Garris (Honorary Isla Calavera Award). In the film, one fateful night five strangers wander into the Rialto, a decadent movie theater run by the Projectionist, a sinister character with the features of Mickey Rourke. Sitting in his stalls, they will face their deepest fears, embodied in different horror stories signed by some of the most prominent authors of genre cinema.

At 1:10 pm, 'Cuerdas'(2019), the first feature film by José Luis Montesinos, winner of the Goya for best short film in 2016 for 'El Corredor', will be shown. It tells the story of Elena, a young quadriplegic, who, with the pain still very fresh from the death of her sister, has retired to a farmhouse in the countryside with her father. There she has the help of Athos, a Belgian shepherd specially trained to help her. However, he who should be the man's best friend has contracted a strange disease... and has become his worst enemy.

And closing this special cycle, at 2:35 pm, is 'Urubú' (2019), debut film by Alejandro Ibáñez Nauta, who is visiting this year's Isla Calavera Festival for the first time to present the series 'Historias para no dormir', a four-episode remake of the emblematic Spanish series by Chicho Ibáñez Serrador. In 'Urubú', Tomás, a photographer and ornithologist at a low point, tries to relaunch his career and drags his family to the Amazon jungle in search of the albino urubú, a rare bird of which there is no record in the wild. The disappearance of his daughter turns the trip into a terrible nightmare.
