The Canary Islands Fantastic Film Festival - Isla Calavera presents the poster for its second edition, which will take place from November 19 to 25 with the sponsorship of the Tenerife 2030 Area of the Island Council, the Development Society of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and the University of La Laguna. The poster, with a bone island as leitmotiv, will serve as a lure for a delivery that will feature director, screenwriter and actor Enzo G. Castellari as the first guest to be announced.
The Festival will award the Italian filmmaker, mentor of Quentin Tarantino, one of this year's Isla Calavera de Honor awards in recognition of his career linked to the fantastic genre, and will screen at Multicines Tenerife (C.C. Alcampo, La Laguna) his film '1990: Los Guerreros del Bronx' (1982), as part of the "Classics of Fantastic" section. It is an action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic future in which street gangs have turned New York City into a dangerous battlefield, along the lines of productions such as 'The Night Masters' (1979), 'Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior' (1981) and '1997: Rescue in New York' (1981).
The new Isla Calavera de Honor Award statuette has been designed by special effects master Colin Arthur ('The Neverending Story'), who received the same award in the first edition of the event.
On the other hand, the Festival Isla Calavera will pay tribute -on the occasion of its 30th anniversary- to the film 'My Neighbor Totoro', written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. In this sense, the collective exhibition '30 years / 30 artists', coordinated by Jordi Pastor and Reinaldo Pereira, an exhibition designed from the different visions and reflections of different creators on this icon of Japanese animation, will be displayed.
This Friday, October 12, the management of the Isla Calavera Festival will be presenting a new preview of the lineup as part of the 51st edition of the Sitges 2018 International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. The meeting, open to the public and press, will take place at 4:00 pm in the FNAC tent.
About Enzo G. Castellari
Enzo G. Castellari is a referent of the Italian fantastic genre, with titles framed in the giallo, such as 'The Cold Eyes of Fear' (1971); the horror film 'L'ultimo squalo' (1981), known in Spain as 'Jaws 3' taking advantage of the pull of Steven Spielberg's classic; or the science fiction film 'The New Barbarians' (1983).
In addition, Castellari is one of the most important directors of the spaghetti western, the western cinema produced in Europe that had its heyday in the 60s and 70s, with titles like ' I go... I kill him and come back' (1967), the mythical 'Keoma' (1976), with Franco Nero, or 'That damn armored train' (1978), set in World War II, a title that inspired Quentin Tarantino for his film 'Inglourious Basterds'.
Within the adventure genre, he directed the film adaptation of the novel by Canarian writer Alberto Vázquez-Figueroa 'Tuareg' (1984), starring Mark Harmon and Luis Prendes.
