San Cristóbal de La Laguna, June 12, 2025 - The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera is once again on the list of the best genre festivals on the planet, according to the top 90 announced by the specialized publication Dread Central. A panel formed by more than 30 leading industry experts has determined the list in which Isla Calavera Festival has been defined as a "rising star in the genre scene in Spain". "Isla Calavera stands out for hosting international headliners and top-notch programming, with a great mix of classic film tributes and new voices, all in a stunning island location that makes the experience even more special."
The Isla Calavera Festival, which had already entered the list of Dread Central in 2022, thus rubs shoulders with the most prestigious and popular international competitions with a historical and consolidated trajectory, such as the Fantasia International Film Festival of Montreal, the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia - Sitges or the Toronto International Film Festival, through its Midnight Madness & Strange Cuts section.
The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera will celebrate its ninth edition from November 7 to 16, 2025 in Tenerife and in the month of July will offer its first pre-festival event at Multicines Tenerife, its screening venue. Isla Calavera was born in 2017 and in its first eight years of trajectory it has achieved an important international impact and is considered one of the most relevant fantastic film meetings in the country, thanks to the firm sponsorship and vision of the City Council of La Laguna, through its Department of Culture, Promotur, Canary Islands Tourism, Canary Islands Latitude of Life, Government of the Canary Islands and the help of the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development, among other public and private entities.
