The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera has presented this Tuesday one of its honorary awards in recognition of an entire career to the American filmmaker John Malkovich, who is in the islands on the occasion of the representation of the acclaimed theatrical show 'The Infernal Comedy. Confessions of a Serial Killer', as part of the program of the Taoro Summers. Isla Calavera has counted on the collaboration of the performing arts festival held these days in Puerto de la Cruz, directed by Enrique Camacho, to present the award.

The actor, producer and film director, Emmy Award winner for the television adaptation of the Broadway play 'Death of a Salesman' and Oscar nominee for his roles in 'En un lugar del corazón' (1984), his first film, and 'En la línea de fuego' (1994), collected the Honorary Isla Calavera Award with enthusiasm and expressed his desire to visit the event in the future.

In his fantastic genre filmography, titles such as 'Dangerous Liaisons' (1988), 'Con Air' (1997), 'Jennifer 8' (1992), 'The Man in the Iron Mask' (1998), 'The Shadow of the Vampire' (2000), in which he gave life to Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, 'Eragon' (2006), 'Beowulf' (2007), 'Jonah Hex' (2010), 'RED' (2010) and its sequel, 'Bird Box: Blind' (2018) or 'Velvet Buzzsaw' (2019).

The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera will celebrate its seventh edition from November 10 to 19, with a program that will revolve around the 90th anniversary of 'King Kong' and will feature American actor Sam J. Jones as the first confirmed guest. The star of the 1980 classic 'Flash Gordon' will receive the Legend of the Fantastic Award. A new programming preview will be announced soon.

Internationally, it has also become one of the events to take into account, thanks to the participation of figures as relevant as John Landis, Deborah Nadoolman, Sarah Douglas, Rick Baker, Caroline Munro, David Naughton, Lamberto Bava, Enzo G. Castellari, Mick Garris, Neil Marshall, Charlotte Kirk, Nicholas Rowe, Colin Arthur or Jack Taylor. Other guests who have visited Tenerife as part of the Isla Calavera Festival and who have put the event on the map of film meetings are Belén Rueda, Álex de la Iglesia, Paco Plaza, Carolina Bang, Paco Cabezas, Víctor Matellano, Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Eugenio Mira and Lola Dueñas, among others.
