The historic center of La Laguna hosts on Tuesday, October 31 the celebration of a new edition of the Isla Calavera Zombie Walk, a fun event aimed at audiences of all ages organized by the Festival Isla Calavera de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad De La Laguna with the sponsorship of the municipal corporation and the area of Culture of the City Council. The popular actor and comedian Aarón Gómez will repeat as master of ceremonies of this zombie encounter with animation, in which the band Crearte Unión Musical de Tejina and Renzzo El Selector will also participate.

As part of the eve of All Saints, Halloween, the Plaza del Adelantado will host the free makeup tents that from 17.00 hours will open to the public to characterize as the classic zombies, or "walking dead" popularized by film, television, comics and fantasy literature to anyone who wants to participate in the fourth edition of the Isla Calavera Zombie Walk. They will also be able to come in costume and make-up from home. This will be the starting point of the "zombie walk", which will start at 20.00 hours and will consist of the route of all participants in the direction of the Plaza de la Concepción through the street Obispo Rey Redondo and back to the starting point by Herradores street. Once the parade is over, awards will be given to the most dedicated participants on the stage set up in the Plaza del Adelantado.

The first official "zombie walk" was held in Sacramento (California) in August 2001. There are now numerous cities around the world that hold events of this type every year, including the Catalan town of Sitges, on the occasion of its famous International Fantastic Film Festival. The first installments of the Isla Calavera Zombie Walk took place in 2018 and 2019 and the event returned after the pandemic in 2022 with great success to return this year, for Halloween, within the program of parallel activities of the seventh edition of the Festival Isla Calavera de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna, which will take place from November 10 to 19.

About the Festival de Cine Fanástico de Canarias Isla Calavera

Organized by the Cultural Association Charlas de Cine, the Cultural Association Isla Calavera, Multicines Tenerife and the specialized publication TumbaAbierta.com, with the sponsorship of the City Council of La Laguna, through the Department of Culture, the Cabildo of Tenerife, Promotur, Canary Islands Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Islas Canarias Latitud de Vida, Canarias avanza con Europa; the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development, Canary Islands Film and Tenerife Film Commission; and the collaboration of the University of La Laguna, among other public and private entities, the Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna Isla Calavera was born in 2017 and in its six years of trajectory has achieved an important national repercussion and is already considered one of the five most relevant fantastic film festivals in the country.

Internationally, it has also become one of the events to be taken into account, thanks to the participation of such important figures as Belén Rueda, John Landis, Deborah Nadoolman, Sarah Douglas, Rick Baker, Caroline Munro, David Naughton, Jack Taylor, Enzo G. Castellari, Mick Garris, Neil Marshall, Álex de la Iglesia, Nicholas Rowe, Colin Arthur or Lamberto Bava. Other guests who have visited Tenerife as part of the Isla Calavera Festival and who have put the event on the map of film meetings include Paco Plaza, Carolina Bang, Paco Cabezas, Víctor Matellano, Juanma Bajo Ulloa, Eugenio Mira, Charlotte Kirk and Lola Dueñas, among others.
