The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Isla Calavera, which will celebrate its fifth edition between November 19 and 27 in Tenerife with the institutional support of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Instituto Canario de Desarrollo Cultural, Sociedad de Desarrollo del Ayuntamiento de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Department of Culture of the City Council of La Laguna and the Tenerife Film Commission, will pay tribute to Scottish actor Nicholas Rowe, star of the 80's classic 'The Secret of the Pyramid'. Barry Levinson's film, produced by Steven Spielberg, which presents a case of a young Sherlock Holmes, can be seen next Wednesday, November 24, at 6:00 p.m., as part of the program to be held at Multicines Tenerife, the Festival's screening venue.

In addition, the Isla Calavera Festival will premiere one of Nicholas Rowe's most recent works: the short horror film 'Stay Alert', which will participate in the official competition section. The story is set during the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, when a young woman who usually takes solitary walks through an old cemetery encounters a stranger who shows a sinister interest in her. It is directed by renowned special effects specialists Lou and Dave Elsey (Oscar Award for Best Makeup for 'The Wolf Man', shared with Rick Baker), who will also visit Isla Calavera to present their work. Both have worked on 'Star Wars: Episode III', 'Beauty and the Beast' and the 'Doctor Who' series, among other productions.

After debuting in 1984 in the feature film 'Another Country', alongside Rupert Everett and Colin Firth, Nicholas Rowe starred in the adventure and mystery film 'The Secret of the Pyramid', executive produced by Amblin Entertainment, scripted by Chris Columbus ('Gremlins', 'The Goonies') and directed by Barry Levinson, the director of 'Rain Man', 'Good Morning, Vietnam' or 'Bugsy'. Rowe gave life to the young Sherlock Holmes and played again the character created by Arthur Conan Doyle in 'Mr. Holmes' (2015), by Bill Condon.

After the success of the film, he focused his career on television, with prominent roles in the miniseries 'The Infinite Worlds of H. G. Wells', 'The Fugitives', 'Dr. Who: Dreamland', 'The Borgia', 'Da Vinci's Demons' or 'The Crown'. In cinema, he has also participated in 'Lock & Stock' by Guy Ritchie, 'The Legend of Nicholas Nickleby' or 'The Seed of Chucky'.
