Synopsis:
Edited by La semana de Cine Fantástico y de Terror de San Sebastián and the Isla Calavera Festival, Kafka, lo kafkiano y el cine fantástico commemorates the centenary of the writer's death. Kafka is one of the great authors of the uncanny. His prophetic work and the concept of the Kafkaesque have influenced the fantastic genre for decades. These pages trace the stamp imprinted by the Kafkaesque on fantasy, horror and science fiction cinema, covering both independent or auteur filmmakers and popular titles that take the Kafkaesque into the territory of pulp fiction and commercial cinema. The first part, by professor and writer Jonathan Allen, addresses the personal relationship between Kafka and cinema, reviewing the most important versions of his works, with a look at films and directors marked by the Kafkaesque. The second, assembled by Jesús Palacios, writer and film critic, penetrates the ambiguous and fascinating influence of the Kafkaesque on the great themes of fantastic cinema (science action, body horror, satire, dystopia, horror, surrealism...). The book will be presented by its two authors, Jonathan Allen and Jesús Palacios and Josemi Beltrán, director of the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival.
