The Festival de Cine Fantástico de Canarias Ciudad de La Laguna, Isla Calavera, presents new guests who will visit Tenerife this November and collect honorary awards in recognition of their career linked to the fantastic genre: English actress Sarah Douglas and Italian filmmaker Lamberto Bava. These announcements took place for the first time in the framework of the 33rd edition of the San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival, where the organizers of the Canarian event presented a new preview of the program.
Known for her interpretation of the villain Ursa in the films 'Superman' (1978) and its sequel, and other legendary roles as the evil queen Taramis in 'Conan, the Destroyer' (1984) or Pamela in the TV series 'V: The Final Battle' (1984), Sarah Douglas was in the Canary Islands shooting in the mid-seventies on the island of La Palma, the adventure film with dinosaurs 'Journey to the Lost World'. The artist will receive the Honorary Skull Island Award for these and other unforgettable characters she has brought to life on the screen and will participate in a meeting with the public after the screening of 'Superman II' (1980).
On the other hand, Isla Calavera will pay tribute to screenwriter, director and producer Lamberto Bava, author of essential titles of fantastic, horror and gore cinema, among them 'Demons' (1985), the story of a young student who attends the premiere of a film at the Metropol cinema, where terror transcends fiction. This title, key in his filmography, will be screened in the Classics section of Isla Calavera. Son of the legendary director Mario Bava and grandson of Eugenio Bava, director of photography and sculptor, Lamberto Bava began his career as an assistant director and screenwriter to later work under the orders of Dario Argento in films such as 'Tenebre' and 'Inferno'.
These awards are in addition to those already announced for John Landiswho will receive the Skull Island of Honor Award in recognition of his career as a master of fantastic cinema, with titles such as 'An American Werewolf in London' (1981) or the mythical music video 'Thriller' (1983), by Michael Jackson; and for Oscar-nominated costume designer Deborah Nadoolman, to whom we owe the memorable costumes of Indiana Jones.
